FAQ: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RESCUE A SATO?

On average, rescuing a dog from Puerto Rico can cost over $500, including vaccinations, exams, care, boarding, and transportation. We are committed to building a network that reduces these costs so every dog has a chance. If you adopt a dog from us, we only ask that you donate $400, which goes directly to our rescue efforts.

• An average vet visit will cost around $100 (based on discounted shelter rescue prices)

  • Visit fee ($15)

  • Health certificate for flight ($15)

  • Vaccinations: rabies ($10), bordetella ($10), and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza) ($10)

  • Tests: A fecal exam testing for parasites ($10) and a 4dx snap tests for heartworm, ehrlichia, anaplasmosis, and lyme disease ($35)

  • Treatment: dewormer ($10-30), antibiotics ($20 for 2 weeks) if 4dx is positive

  • Sterilization: Spay for a 40-60 pound female is around $90

  • Broken bones, TVT, or more serious conditions can be hundreds or thousands more...

 

• A crate for shipment will cost around $60-100 depending on the size. We try to organize crate drives and borrow or reuse crates regularly to eliminate or reduce this cost.

• We arrange boarding at a discounted price of $5/day and continue to build a network of fosters in an effort to eliminate this cost. 

 

• Flying an animal via cargo costs at least $300 depending on the airline and the size of the animal. Flying a small animal in cabin can be as low as around $100. With collaboration from other large rescues and participating airlines we can achieve more significant discounts on transportation costs.
